The following are the people and companies we have found to be reliable, reasonably priced and friendly or have been specifically recommended by our friends and customers. Bicycle Sales and Service: Bike shops in Amsterdam are top of the line. There are 16 million bicycles in Holland and 15 million people. Bike Shops are big business. Well, Carrollwood Bicycle Emporiumwould get a high rating in Holland and they certainly get it in TampaBay. We took our bikes in and they had them fixed, tires replaced and checked out in 45 minutes. Plus, when it comes to cleaning tips around the home Carolyn is an expert.. She will take on special, one-time projects but you want her for regular visits. Fencing: Dave and Pat Riggs moved into Wilderness Lake and hired the Family Fence Company of Floridato put in a fence. Michael Kennedy (the owner) took care of all the permits and the HOA application and put in 351 feet of fence in a morning. He came in on time and on budget. The Riggs are very pleased. Fireplace Service: We have a gas fireplace which had never been serviced until this winter. We looked and looked and finally found Largo Piping & Gas. Hardware Store: There’s Lowes and there’s HomeDepot but if you want a genuine, old fashioned hardware store built on great, friendly service with lots of experience and advice thrown in, check out Harvey’s Hardware on Land O Lakes Blvd just a few doors north of the Post Office.
Heating/Air Conditioning/Emergency Service: Airpromptoffers 24 hour emergency service. We’ve used them (on a Saturday night) once and they came quickly, kept all their promises, did good work and charged a fair price. 727.844.7893

Hotel: We haven’t stayed at our brand new Hampton Inn & Suitesbut it is a treat to have a hotel so close for a change. We’ve visited it and the staff seems friendly. It’s at Highway 56 and 75. 813.973.2288

In Land O Lakes, about a half a mile from our house, is Duncheons. They have a well stocked nursery and their expertise is always available – even if you’re not buying something. We like them a lot. They’re located on Land O Lakes Blvd. just north of SR 54. 813.948.1890

Odd Bits: Here are recommendations that don’t fit the usual orderly list:
Great city to Visit in Florida: St. Augustine! The Oldest City in the United States. If you stay overnight, check out the St. George Innin the Old Town. 904.827.5740
Great Airports: Tampa International Airport(TPA) is always ranked in the top five airports in the United States. We think it’s up there (in the medium size category) on an international basis. If you walk more than 200 yards at TPA you’ve made a mistake. St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport(PIE) The flights are limited but if you’re lucky and Allegiant Airlinesis flying to a city you want to go to – it’s great. Easy access, easy and close parking and the prices are very reasonable. We fly to Cedar Rapids, Iowa non-stop and we’ve done a round trip for less than $150.00. Check it out.

Great Out-in-the-Country Restaurant: The Pearl In The Groveis located on the western edge of Dade City at 31936 St. Joe Road. It is a converted farm house with a very eclectic menu. They’re closed on Monday and Tuesday, you’ll need a reservation on Friday and Saturday. It’s a great drive in the country – its rural Florida for sure. 352.588.0008

Great Saturday Morning Market: Downtown St Petersburg – stay for lunch or dinner, walk the park, eat al fresco and check out the Pier and the Vinoy Hotel. Marketis open from October to May.
Great Beach Bar: Frenchy’s Rockaway Grillright on Clearwater Beach. Turn right at the roundabout and head for the water tower. It’s always crowded but the sunsets are great and the Grouper is fresh.
Great Beach Bar not on the beach: Ukulele Brandsopen air bar and restaurant is located on the west side of Land O lakes Blvd just north of Hale Road. Good basic food, great hamburgers, prime rib and on certain days it’s an all hot dog menu.
Dade City trip down memory lane: We think Dade City is really cool plus you have to drive through San Antonio and St Leo (with hills) to get to Dade City and once you’re there – make a reservation to eat at Lunch on Limoges. Lowry Park Zooand the Florida Aquarium: Two absolutely excellent places to spend a day, an afternoon and come away refreshed and happy.
